Grenache Blanc, while not considered “obscure”, is still not widely understood by consumers.  Hailing first from Northeast Spain as a mutation of the red Grenache Noir grape, and eventually migrating to various regions in the Rhone Valley—especially in the South—it is often shrugged off as a blender.  Of course, this is not the case when it comes to our approach to Grenache Blanc at Skinner; this varietal, with all its complexities, takes no back seat to Viognier or Marsanne/Roussane blends.  Our goal is to celebrate Grenache Blanc by crafting a wine with a foot in the past and a foot in the present; the marriage of rustic minerality and bizarre floral-salinity, with deep texture and nervy poise.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The aromatics are seemingly boundless with first impressions of crushed rock and white flowers, giving way to underpinnings of honeysuckle, stone fruit and sandalwood. Opening with zippy, perfumed summer fruit the midpalate is pleasingly covered with sensual weight and phenolic tension. The finish is long and elevated, leaving a lingering impression that is poised, vivacious and lightheartedly seductive.
Winemaker's Notes
Made with great intention the grapes were cold pressed as individual lots. The juice saw no sulfur, to allow for a “brown-out” process which offers an opportunity for any harsh, bitter phenolics to drop out, yielding softer, clarified juice. Native fermentation took place largely in concrete and stainless steel with a small contribution from neutral and slightly seasoned French oak. Malolactic conversion was arrested early on in order to retain natural acidity, and bottled soon after to capture freshness.
