2014 Grenache, Estate

This is the 3nd release of our Estate Grenache. The wine is reflection of the extreme growing conditions and granitic soils of our high elevation (2740’) vineyard. It is comprised of 2 clones from different sources – John Alban’s famous A2 clone, and France’s ENTAV 513 clone. The granitic soils have a pronounced affect on the wine especially as it relates to its velvety texture. We used 100% French Oak Hogsheads for this 3-barrel selection which are about 25% larger in volume and thus have less surface area and oak impact. The wine utilizes native yeast and minimal handling during fermentation and élevage. It spends 18 months in French oak (33% new) and has been bottled unfined and unfiltered.
