Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This wine is always rustic in nature. We age the wine for about 2 years in barrel and a year plus in bottle prior to release. The resulting wine has aromatics of red and blue fruits, lead pencil, green peppercorn, dusty road, and wild sage, coupled with hints of dried apricot and white flowers. This unfined and unfiltered wine has modest tannins with fresh acidity and minerality on the finish.
Winemaker's Notes
This El Dorado Syrah is grown primarily at our Stoney Creek Vineyard in Fair Play at 2740’ in elevation. We’ve incorporated some fruit from the northern reaches of the region in the form of Fenaughty Vineyard Syrah (19%). Grapes were picked over a span of 2 weeks from September 5th to 19th at an average of 24.7 brix. We co-ferment at least one of our lots with Viognier from the estate. In 2013, we have the largest percentage of Viognier to date at 9%. A dash of Counoise (5%) was blended at bottling to round out the edges.
