Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2012 Estate Mourvedre shows some red and blue fruit up front but is dominated by savory aromatics like tapenade, underbrush, tobacco, and dried herbs like dried sage and lavender. The palate has modest tannins and structure coupled with a sense of minerality and fresh acidity on the finish.
Winemaker's Notes
This is our third release of Estate grown Mourvedre that has a splash of Syrah added for complexity and a bit of structure. It is comprised of fruit off of our high elevation vineyard at 2740’ and planted in well draining decomposed granite soils. The wine is fermented in small batches with manual punchdowns twice a day. After 3-5 days of cold soaking at 55 degrees, the tanks are allowed to warm up and fermentation kicks in spontaneously. The wine spends 21 months undisturbed in French oak prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur added.
