2015 Roussanne, El Dorado

The varietal takes its name from “roux”, the French word for “russet”— which relates to its reddish golden color at harvest. It is the noble white grape of the Northern Rhone where it makes long-lived Hermitage Blanc. It is also permitted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape as a blending grape for red and white wines.  In California it is gaining popularity as a single varietal or as a component in white Rhone blends.

2013 Picpoul Blanc
This lesser-known varietal is from the south of France and means "lip stinger." It gets its name from its high natural acidity. It is typically used as a blending grape is the wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and our Seven Generations white blend. There are only a hundred or so acres planted in California, so it is rarely seen as a stand-along wine in the states.
